Carlin (Carly) Janson, Executive Chair and Founder
Carly Janson is New Sector's Executive Chair and Founder, and recently led the organization's expansion to California. She started New Sector in 2000 as a volunteer project supported by individuals from multiple top consulting firms and business schools, and incorporated the initiative as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in July 2001. In addition to serving as New Sector's CEO, Janson has worked as a Director at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) focused on social impact and human capital. She has also consulted to Fortune 100 companies in the financial services and telecommunications industries, and developed strategic plans for multiple federal government agencies. Over the past decade, she has focused on developing strategies and mobilizing top talent to effect change across sectors, including work with hundreds of for-profit companies, nonprofits, public sector agencies, and cross-sector partnerships. Janson holds a BA in Economics, magna cum laude, from Princeton University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and has studied International Economics and The Economics of Social Problems at the London School of Economics. She was also Center for Social Innovation Fellow at Stanford's Graduate School of Business. 

Jenn Bender, Managing Director
Jenn Bender (formerly Jenn Harber) is New Sector's Managing Director. Before joining New Sector, Jenn was Executive Director of The Bridge Center, where she led the strategic growth, sustainability development, and program enhancements resulting in a portfolio of outcome-oriented therapeutic recreation programs. Previously, Jenn was Program Director at MGH YouthCare where she developed, managed and grew therapeutic programs to meet the needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Jenn holds an BA in Psychology and Mathematics from Cornell University, an Ed.M. from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and an MBA from Babson College. During her MBA studies, she was a New Sector consulting Program Participant. Jenn serves on the Board of Directors of the American Camp Association.

Jenn Taylor, Senior Consultant
Jenn is a Senior Consultant with New Sector, where she shares her deep expertise as a project manager, business process analyst, and technology expert. Jenn has over 15 years of experience working with teams to implement difficult -- even impossible -- projects. Her experience spans across sectors and sizes of organizations -- she has significant experience with nonprofits, government, higher educational institutions, and start-ups.  In addition to her role at New Sector, Jenn is the Managing Director of JM Taylor Associates, where she works with managers and staff in resource-constrained environments to implement strategic technology initiatives, streamline processes, and improve efficiencies. Before taking on her current position with New Sector, Jenn served as a volunteer program leader and trainer. Jenn holds a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Alabama, an MBA from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Brian Garshelis, San Francisco Bay Area Program Director
Brian Garshelis is New Sector's Chief of Staff and Bay Area Program Director.  Garshelis manages all Bay Area program operations while actively developing relationships with local stakeholders in order to build New Sector’s presence in communities throughout Northern California. Garshelis came to New Sector from Jumpstart for Young Children, where he assisted CEO James Cleveland. Garshelis previously worked for United States Senator Amy Klobuchar in Minneapolis, MN, as both her Staff Assistant and Constituent Advocate. He holds a BA in Political Science and Spanish, magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas.

Jessica Paulsen, Chicago Partnership and Program Manager

Jessica Paulsen is New Sector’s Partnership and Program Manager, managing program development and developing stakeholder relationships as we expand New Sector into Chicago.  Jessica came to Chicago in 2005 as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer at the Center for Economic Progress. After completing her year of service in the organization’s marketing department, Jessica went on to lead marketing, public relations and fundraising efforts at several organizations in Chicago and Central Illinois including Planned Parenthood of East Central Illinois, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank and Alternatives, Inc. Jessica holds a BA in Theater and Communication Arts from Gannon University in Pennsylvania and earned an MBA at the University of Illinois.

Minh NguyenDevelopment and Operations Coordinator

Minh Nguyen is New Sector’s Development and Operations Coordinator.  Minh came to New Sector from BNY Mellon Wealth Management where he assisted management with business development initiatives and operations management projects. Prior to that, Minh had sales experience working as a real estate agent.  He holds a BA from Tufts University with a major in International Relations and minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership, and also attended Boston Startup School, a six week intensive program immersing students in challenges faced by startups and entrepreneurs.  As an undergrad, Minh was highly involved with the Career Services office, engaging with students on career building advice including resume and cover letter workshops.

Ariana Almas, Boston Program Coordinator
Ariana is an alumna of New Sector's AmeriCorps Residency in Social Enterprise, where she served full-time at Cambridge College.  Ariana'a projects were focused on identifying effective educational pathways for working adults, and her recommendations have enabled the college to identify vocational and academic programs for development/enhancement that offer the greatest opportunities for vocational and academic training leading to long-term economic security for working adults and their families.  Ariana is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she studied Sociology and Psychology, and also attended the Tuck School's Business Bridge Program.  While an undergraduate, Ariana was an active student leader in the offices of Diversity and Equity, the Dean of Undergraduate Students, and Student Life.

Ed Mulherin, Chief Financial Consultant

Ed serves as New Sector's CFO, overseeing all finance, accounting, and related reporting functions for the organization. He joined the New Sector team in 2006. In addition to his role  at New Sector, Ed is the founder and CEO of eCratchit Bookkeeping Solutions, a leading provider of web-based, outsourced bookkeeping solutions managed by experienced bookkeepers and CPAs. Ed has over 30 years of experience providing tax, accounting and business consulting services to a diverse group of organizations. In 1990 Ed was one of the founding members of Leonard, Mulherin & Greene, P.C., a CPA and consulting firm; he has been instrumental in the firm's direction and dramatic growth over the past twenty years. Ed is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and he has a JD from Suffolk University Law School and a BS in Accounting from Boston College.
