If you could have dinner with 1 person who you regard as a leader, who would it be and why?

I’d want to dine with Jerry Brown because he has been able to lead California through thick and thin, and yet the state remains an awesome place.

What motivates you to create social impact?

To extend the opportunities I had growing up, being involved in programs produced by the social sector, to the community around me.

Host Site Overview

Our mission is to connect under-resourced students with resources, schools, and donors to make college possible. We provide comprehensive support services for students throughout the college admission process and leverage the Internet to enable individuals to invest in the academic future of our students. We support students through to graduation and engage our alumni to stay involved and give back.

Host Site Project

ScholarMatch works with high school and college students from the greater Bay Area. The median family income is $24,000 per year and about 82% of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Thus, the vast majority of our students are both low-income and first-generation. Statistics on how low-income and first-generation students fare in college are bleak. Six years after first enrolling in college, only 10.9% of the students will have earned a bachelor’s degree. We envision a world where all students have access to higher education and the opportunity to succeed in a fulfilling career. Our mission is to make college possible for underserved youth by matching students with donors, resources, college and professional networks. We work toward this mission by serving as the physical and virtual center of community collaboration that fosters life-changing opportunities. The New Sector Summer Fellow will help ScholarMatch design and prepare for launch a new virtual college advising program to be implemented in the fall. This program will greatly expand the reach of the organization and bring vital services to students previously without access.
