Dr. Beverly D. Tatum because her book “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria” encouraged me throughout college to publicly discuss race in education, and address issues plaguing social and racial identity.

Host Site Project

Tech Goes Home (TGH), founded in 2000, is a national award-winning initiative that has provided under-served residents the opportunity, tools, education, and access required for 21st century skills development. With the support and backing of the city of Boston, TGH serves the US’s most vulnerable populations, including children/youth, adults, seniors, non English- speakers, and people with disabilities, all of whom are predominantly low-income and/or from challenged neighborhoods. TGH is focused on tackling the entrenched barriers to technology adoption and Internet access in Boston and across the US. Over 90% of program graduates subscribe to Internet access in their homes long after program completion. Since 2010, nearly 14,000 participants have completed TGH. The primary project focuses on the continued build-out of our existing volunteer program. The Fellow will manage and expand the reach of the program. Specific improvements include the implementation of initiatives designed to deepen volunteer engagement through appreciation events. The Fellow will also examine the current volunteer outreach strategy and identify and make recommendations for improvements. As a secondary focus the Fellow will support TGH in its mission and efforts to increase impact and sustainability beyond the volunteer program, including assistance with projects aim at exploring a national expansion. The Fellow will also develop their facilitation and training skills by supporting TGH staff with program “train the trainers.” Finally, the Fellow will engage, as needed, in data collection and analysis.
