If you could have dinner with 1 person who you regard as a leader, who would it be and why?
William James: After drifting as a young adult while he traveled the world and dabbled in different fields of study, he went on to pioneer the science of psychology and become one of the most important philosophers in American history (to say nothing of his glorious beard).
What motivates you to create social impact?
As I grow more and more mindful of the countless privileges that come along with my lot in life, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to help others in our community — whatever their background — share in the types of opportunities and support I’ve enjoyed.
Host Site Overview
The Mission Asset Fund (MAF) is a San Francisco nonprofit organization working to expand access to financial services, savings, and investment opportunities for low-income and working poor families.
Host Site Project
MAF believes in creating pathways out of the financial shadows. Every day we help house cleaners and restaurant owners across the U.S. save money with better credit and less debt. We do it because 50 million Americans are living in the shadows where predatory lenders lurk. From our signature social loans to our groundbreaking research, we are constantly innovating and advocating for effective, culturally relevant ways to improve economic mobility. We are transforming the financial services sector so that all hardworking families have a shot at achieving their dreams. The New Sector RISE Fellow will focus on: 1) implementing and managing processes that effectively communicate the organization’s impact to a wide variety of audiences across different delivery channels; and 2) building organizational infrastructure for internal communications to enable all team members to be well-informed, ensuring that communications projects are effective and timely. The Fellow will be a key content manager and coordinate complex communication functions from external messaging to campaign development. The Fellow will start by reviewing and improving current systems and will develop a process for and participate in the creation of content across the organization. By supporting and expanding the communications efforts of MAF, the Fellow will increase the capacity of the organization to reach new audiences, both locally and nationally, resulting in more services provided.
