The New Sector Impact Leadership Incubator is designed to streamline hiring and support staff retention for social impact organizations by matching our Fellows as employees with partner organizations while providing 5-months of our intensive professional-development training to our Fellows. The result for organizations is affordable access to top talent without the painful process of recruiting and hiring!

For a similar cost of hiring a traditional employee, organizations hire New Sector’s highly-vetted top talent.  Organizations only sign a contract with New Sector if one of our Fellows is hired for the role, so there’s no obligation or risk in meeting candidates! Once New Sector Fellows begin their new positions, they have a built-in support system of mentors, peers, and coaching, easing the onboarding process for supervisors and the organization.

Why Hire a New Sector Fellow

  • Access affordable top talent: New Sector Fellows are selected from top academic institutions and young professional networks throughout the nation through a highly competitive process, including two rounds of interviews, review of written materials, and two reference checks. Fellows are carefully vetted and then interview with host site partners in order to identify the best match for the organization.
  • Invest in your staff: Fellows receive intensive training to build skills that support long-term job success and retention.  By investing this time early in their roles, new staff are better able to navigate challenges, adjust to organizational culture, work-plan, and meet long-term goals.
  • Tap into a valuable network: Fellows not only bring their personal skill sets and experiences to the community organization, but also a network of support offered by New Sector’s Social Impact Leadership Curriculum, 1:1 mentorship from experienced professionals (from business, nonprofit and consulting backgrounds), as well as coaching from peers and New Sector staff.
  • Influence the next generation of social impact leaders: As a partner you will play a critical role in supporting our mission to build the social sector talent pipeline by providing the supervision, resources, and experiences that strengthens our Fellows’ abilities to pursue long-term social sector careers.

New Sector gives organizations access to a competitively vetted cohort of diverse, emerging leaders with long-term commitment to the Social Sector.  Organizations are welcome to meet our fellows to see if there is a potential good fit, as there is no obligation to take a Fellow until a mutual match is found! Matching Process

    • Scoping: Your staff works closely with New Sector to outline your position scope. This ensures the position fits New Sector’s guidelines and goals and offers a valuable member development experience.
    • Selecting Candidates: After reviewing both candidate application materials and project information, our staff identify potential matches and share select resumes with organizations.
    • Interviewing: For each candidate your organization would like to interview (usually 3-5 per project), our staff set up an interview. After an interview happens, both the organization and Fellow provide feedback to New Sector. Once New Sector receives that feedback, we update each party on the status in order to make an informed decision.
    • Matching: When both parties agree that the job and fellow are a great fit, we make a match! New Sector cannot guarantee a Fellow will match since all matches are contingent on mutual fit.

Salary and benefits are provided by the host site partner, New Sector does not pay Fellows. This fee structure allows us to provide talent at or below market rate while enabling us to deliver our highly effective professional development curriculum to our Fellows.

Salary and benefits to the fellow: New Sector matches Fellows with positions that have a minimum annual salary of $28,000 in Chicago and the Twin Cities, $32,000 in Boston, or $38,000 in San Francisco.

New Sector program fee: $8,000 covers the fees for New Sector to recruit, train, place, and support our Fellows.
