Elisabeth (“Lis") Sylvan, PhD is passionate about building spaces where people can benefit from technologies that is deployed satefy and ethically. She has done this work in the context of higher ed, education nonprofits, museums, and research. Currently she is a Director at the Global Network of Internet & Society Centers, as well as Senior Fellow at ITS Rio, lecturer at the Brown University School of Engineering, lecturer in the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy at the Technical University of Munich, and affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University (BKC). For the previous five years, she served in multiple senior leadership roles at the Berkman Klein Center. Her M.S. and Ph.D. are from the MIT Media Lab where her work addressed how sociotechnical systems support shared knowledge and group action. Lis has two teen-aged children, gardens constantly, and writes speculative fiction.
